Electric cars have been steadily rising in popularity globally, and in Singapore as well.

Singapore has a grand vision of phasing out internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2040, according to Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat in his February 2020 budget speech.

The city has seen a rise in electric car sharing startups such as BlueSG, while Hyundai is slated to set up an electric car manufacturing plant here.

With the electric vehicle revolution happening, Singaporeans have been wondering why Tesla’s cars have not made an appearance on our roads yet.

However, it seems that Singaporeans might not have to wait too long before seeing Elon Musk’s electric cars in the city.

A quick search on the Tesla website shows that it is slated to enter the Singapore market.

However, the target opening date is still unconfirmed, while the website also states that “timing and location are subject to change”.

Tesla currently has stores in over 30 countries in the world, including Germany, United Kingdom, Taiwan, China and South Korea.

In November 2020, Tesla was hiring for a Charging Manager, which hints to the setting up of Tesla’s own EV charging infrastructure in Singapore.

The company plans to offer “comprehensive charging solutions” which includes home charging, public charging, third-party charging and Supercharging.

According to Tesla, the goal of the Supercharger network is to enable freedom of travel for Tesla owners at a fraction of the cost of gasoline.

It currently has over 2,000 Supercharger Stations with more than 20,000 Superchargers around the world.

Even though Singapore does not have a Tesla charging station yet, existing Tesla owners can make use of any the 1,600 charging stations in Singapore.

To add on, despite not having any official Tesla showrooms in Singapore yet, many car dealers in Singapore have imported them for sale in the nation.

An imported Tesla Model 3 will cost owner around S$154,000 not including the Certificate of Entitlement (COE).
