Amadeus Q2 N. American Air Bookings 11.3 Percent Higher Than Pre-Pandemic

Air bookings through Amadeus reached 75.2 percent of 2019 levels in the second quarter, with bookings in North America higher than pre-pandemic levels, the company said in its earnings report.

The recovery level in the second quarter was an improvement of 18.8 percentage points compared with recovery in the first quarter, according to Amadeus. All regions were better recovered compared with the first quarter, and bookings in North America were up 11.3 percent compared with the second quarter of 2019.

"Our travel agency bookings performance accelerated, supported by industry recovery and marketshare gains, driving our growth across regions, particularly in North America," according to Amadeus president and CEO Luis Maroto. "Number of passengers boarded strengthened across regions as well, also led by North America, which grew positively compared to 2019."

For the past six months, Amadeus air bookings totaled 200.9 million, down 34.7 percent compared with the first half of 2019, and total passengers boarded was down 30.2 percent. Total revenue for the first half of the year was €2.1 billion, down 25.7 percent compared with the first half of 2019, and air distribution revenue was down 32.9 percent to €1.04 billion.

Amadeus' adjusted profit for the first half of 2022 was €341.8 million, a little more than half of its adjusted profit in the first half of 2019.
