American to Offer Free Wi-Fi in 2026

American Airlines in January 2026 and in partnership with AT&T will begin to offer free inflight Wi-Fi on aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat high-speed connectivity, which accounts for about 90 percent of its fleet, the carrier announced Tuesday. The complimentary service will be available to members of the American AAdvantage loyalty program.

The carrier in March began a limited-time free Wi-Fi test on a few routes to gauge the strength of the service, "which surpassed performance expectations." American also is "on pace" to outfit more than 500 regional aircraft with high-speed Wi-Fi by the end of 2025.

American is the last of the three largest U.S. carriers to announce plans for free Wi-Fi. Delta Air Lines began offering it to loyalty members in February 2023, and United Airlines announced in September 2024 that it would begin offering it to loyalty members in 2025.
