“Crazy Rich Asians” breakout star Awkwafina will be honored with the Transcendent Talent Award, which is given to “a creative who breaks through the boundaries of their artistic field, be it in acting, writing, directing, or more.” The “Farewell” and “Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” actress recently led “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens,” a Comedy Central show that she also created. Her upcoming slate includes an untitled comedy from Jessica Yu (“The Morning Show”) that sees her playing Sandra Oh’s sister.
Set to receive Woodstock’s Fiercely Independent Award, Granik is best known for co-writing and directing “Winter’s Bone,” which received four Oscar nods and launched Jennifer Lawrence’s career. Her other credits include “Leave No Trace” and “Stray Dog.” Up next for Granik is “Nickel and Dimed,” an investigation into low-wage jobs in the U.S.
Bocco, the President of IFC Films, is receiving the fest’s Trailblazer Award. “She has overseen the acquisition of more than 800 films at the company,” the source notes. Her previous posts include serving as SVP of acquisitions at Miramax Films and VP of acquisitions and co-production at New Line and Fine Line.
Woodstock Film Festival runs September 28-October 2. This year’s program hasn’t been announced yet.
