Check with airlines over weather concerns, airports tell passengers
Met Office warnings apply through New Year period
Airports are recommending passengers to check with airlines for flight updates while Met Office weather warnings remain in force across various parts of the UK.
An amber warning for rain applies to parts of the Highlands and Moray until 5pm on December 31, with a yellow warning for rain and snow affecting much of Scotland until 11.59pm.
A yellow warning for wind applies to the central belt of Scotland and areas further south – including the northeast of England, the East Riding of Yorkshire and north Yorkshire – until 11pm.

On New Year’s Day, there is a yellow warning for rain covering parts of northwest England as well as Wales, with a wind warning also applying to many areas until 3pm.
Airports contacted by Travel Weekly on December 31 said they were operating as usual but continuing to monitor the weather.
Edinburgh and Liverpool said passengers should check with airlines for the latest information on schedules, including cancellations and delays.
A spokesperson for Luton airport said: “We are not expecting any impact to the operation. Our latest forecasts show there is no longer any risk of snow on Wednesday [January 1] and only a very low chance of isolated snow showers in the early hours of Thursday morning, with no accumulations expected.”
Edinburgh’s outdoor Hogmanay celebrations have been cancelled because of the organiser’s concerns about “extreme weather”.
On January 2, there is a yellow warning for snow and ice affecting Aberdeenshire, Moray and parts of the Highlands.
