"Lucy and Desi"

Amy Poehler makes her documentary directorial debut with “Lucy and Desi,” a tribute to the power couple behind “I Love Lucy,” Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The “Parks and Recreation” alumna and “Moxie” director isn’t just paying homage to Lucy and Ricky in the Sundance title — she also celebrating another relationship from the beloved sitcom, Lucy and Ethel’s friendship.

“Back then, a big part of the culture was pitting women against each other, and there weren’t opportunities for women to work together as teammates as much, and so you didn’t see that — until Lucy and Ethel and their antics,” we’re told in an exclusive clip from “Lucy and Desi.”

We’re treated to some footage of those hilarious “antics” and also hear from Ball and Vivian Vance, the actress who played Ethel.

“Lucy and Desi” launches on Prime Video March 4.

Asked what she’d like people to think about after watching the film, Poehler told us, “How impressive it was that two outsiders completely changed the face of the business, but how both would probably consider their lifelong relationship and the family they created as their biggest success. Hopefully, the film shows not only how much has changed, but how much has stayed the same, especially for women and performers of color,” the “Wine Country” helmer and star emphasized. “Also, I would like to be reminded what a hot and powerful couple these two were, and how funny and good their work is many decades later.”
