First look at Carnival Cruise Line’s refurbished private Caribbean island
Here is what guests can expect from the Carnival Cruise Line’s newly revamped RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay
Carnival Cruise Line has completed refurbishment of its private Caribbean island RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, boosting the destination’s dining, drinking and relaxation options.
The updates aim to make it easier for passengers to access the cruise line’s exclusive private island.
A new pier has been built, allowing ships to dock rather than using tender boats. There is also a new tram service connecting all areas of the island. Alternatively, guests can walk the new scenic Papaya Pathway around the island.
Passengers can also enjoy an expanded white sand beach where they can use loungers or umbrellas for free or reserve cabanas and daybeds.

Visitors will also find new and upgraded food and drink venues – including the Orchid Beach Grill, Hibiscus Beach Grill, Luna Tide Beach Bar, Stay Awhile Beach Shack and Lil’ Tiki Bar – offering a variety of Caribbean style meals, full buffets and beverages, in shaded, beachfront settings.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said: “RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay’s natural beauty has always made it a favourite for our guests, and with the new pier, more ships can now easily access this incredible destination.
“We’re excited that more guests than ever will be able to experience the stunning beachfront and turquoise waters.”
Carnival Cruise Line ships visit the island during several Caribbean itineraries.
Currently, 22 ships in the fleet call on RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay including the cruise line’s newest ships Carnival Jubilee and Carnival Celebration.
Prices start from £160 per person.
Private islands are popular parts of Caribbean cruise itineraries, giving sailors a day to relax by the beach and enjoy water activities such as swimming and snorkelling. Disney Cruise Line has a private island called Castaway Cay, while Royal Caribbean has a stop called Perfect Day at CocoCay, and is planning a similar destination in Mexico.
MSC Cruises also has an Ocean Cay Marine Reserve and is planning a second luxury-focused Caribbean island.
Carnival Cruise Line has another private Caribbean island that opened last year called Celebration Key.
