Latin Routes reports record February thanks to key destinations

Latin Routes has reported a record February driven by sales for key destinations.

The Latin America specialist tour operator said sales growth of more than 100% year on year for the month could be attributed to strong bookings for Peru, Chile and Argentina.

Peru sales were up more than 170% year on year in February while Chile sales were more than 90% up and Argentina sales were up by more than 30%.

The operator said this demonstrated high demand from consumers for these destinations despite high profile recent media coverage of events in the region, such as a state of emergency in Ecuador, which borders Peru.

Latin Routes also said there had been an increase in demand for off-the-beaten-path destinations, with both Uruguay and Guyana enjoying spikes in popularity.

In addition it reported a rising trend for multi-country holidays, establishing the desire to travel further and for longer durations to make the most of travel experiences.

Senior product manager Cat Davies said the sales growth reflected trust from customers and dedication by the operator’s staff, adding: “This growth is also a result of the support we receive from our key partners, including campaigns with the Chilean, Brazilian, and regional Argentinian tourist boards.”

Director and co-founder Martin Johnson also credited staff and suppliers.

He said: “A huge thank you to our incredible team, for such an amazing month of sales, and of course a massive thank you to our trade partners for your continued support in driving growth to Latin America.”

The sales success of February followed a strong January in which sales were up by more than 50% year on year. The operator cited particularly strong sales for Peru, Chile and Brazil, while also reporting significant growth in expedition cruise bookings in January, with more than 40% growth in passenger numbers.
