Lithuania declares state of emergency over Russian invasion of Ukraine

A state of emergency has been declared in Lithuania due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine just days after the Baltic state relaxed international traveller restrictions.

The decision by the country, which borders Ukraine neighbour and Russian supporting Belarus, was highlighted in updated Foreign Office travel advice.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: “On 24 February, Lithuania entered into a state of announced a state of emergency, in response to Russian military action in Ukraine.

“Rules relating to the state of emergency may change at short notice.

“You are required to carry photo identification at all times when travelling in Lithuania and must present your ID to law enforcement officers when requested.

“Additional spot checks may be in operation at border crossings, which may lead to some delays if you are travelling by road.”

Lithuania lifted travel restrictions on February 15, abolishing the need for people from Britain to self-isolate regardless of vaccination status.
