Little Caesars fills CMO role with internal hire

Little Caesars has promoted Greg Hamilton to chief marketing officer.

Hamilton, who was most recently senior VP of marketing at the pizza chain, fills the role previously held by Jeff Klein, who left Little Caesars in late May to become CMO of Popeyes.

Hamilton, according to Little Caesars, has been a key player in the chain's move toward more digital marketing and initiatives such as its 2020 Super Bowl commercial, marketing tie-ins with “The Batman” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II,” as well as the chain becoming the official pizza sponsor of the NFL this year.

“Greg has been an innovative leader here for some time and we’re confident he’s going to propel our brand forward even more as our CMO,” Dave Scrivano, president and CEO of Little Caesars, said in a statement.

Updates and analysis from the annual event

Little Caesars is leaning into its NFL sponsorship this fall. Matthew Stafford, the LA Rams quarterback, appears in some ads for the chain. The Detroit-based pizza chain is also giving away tickets to the 2023 Super Bowl.

Little Caesars, which works with creative agency McKinney, has not returned to the Big Game since its 2020 debut. Super Bowl Sunday is a major sales day for Little Caesars, as well as rivals such as Domino's, Pizza Hut and Papa Johns.

“Our brand is digitally heavy in terms of investments, but we also understand the power of traditional television,” Hamilton told Ad Age in June, when the NFL sponsorship was announced. “A lot of that power now resides in the sports space—more than it has ever has before. People are still watching the games live. And the size of that audience is heads and shoulders above all other sports properties. We feel it’s going to be a great place for us.”

Before he joined Little Caesars in 2019, Hamilton held roles at Wingstop and Wendy’s, and previously worked on the agency side at OMD and Doner, according to his LinkedIn profile.
