Metrograph Announces Sally Potter Retrospective

"Orlando" is among the titles screening

New York City’s Metrograph is launching a retrospective of Sally Potter. Titled “Yes: The Films of Sally Potter,” the event will showcase seven of the the British filmmaker’s features and a number of her shorts, including the North American premiere of her latest short, “Look At Me,” a portrait of a drummer and a gala organizer who are preparing for a performance under increasingly tense conditions.

Programming also features a new restoration of 1992 Tilda Swinton-starrer “Orlando,” Potter’s adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s gender-bending novel. Other titles set to screen include “Ginger & Rosa,” a 2012 coming-of-age drama led by Elle Fanning that’s set against the backdrop of 1962 London, and 1983’s “The Gold Diggers,” a sci-fi musical that was made with an all-female crew.

The retrospective is named after “Yes,” Potter’s 2004 romance about an American and a Lebanese exile who cross paths in London.

“Yes: The Films of Sally Potter” kicks off October 7. Potter will be in attendance for select screenings of “Orlando” October 7 and 9, with further dates and details to be announced, according to a press release from the Metrograph.
