Staggered closures will run throughout the summer

Piccadilly line closures to cause major disruption for Heathrow passengers

Major closures on the Piccadilly line this June will force Heathrow passengers to find alternative routes to the airport.

Transport for London is carrying out necessary work to upgrade the Piccadilly line ahead of the new fleet of state-of-the-art trains scheduled to enter passenger service by the end of this year at the earliest.

The £3.4bn investment will offer 10 per cent more capacity, along with wider double doorways for easier boarding, and will be the first deep Tube trains to have air conditioning.

To carry the works out, there will be a series of part closures of the line. Most of these will occur over weekends, but some weekdays will be affected.

Closures of the line started with the Night Tube to Heathrow on 22 May and will affect night and day Tube services on various dates up until 1 November.

In June, the Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge Night Tube will be closed from Friday 5 to Sunday 7.

The Night Tube will have no service on the entire line on Friday, 12 June. The next day, the Hyde Park Corner to Acton Town service will be closed until 2pm.

Passengers can also expect closures between Cockfosters and Uxbridge on Saturday 20 to Sunday, 21 June.

The Night Tube between King's Cross St Pancras and Heathrow will close on Friday, 26 June, while all services in the day on Saturday, 27 and Sunday, 28, will close between King's Cross St Pancras to Northfields and Uxbridge.

The disruption will continue into the summer, with closures scheduled in July, August, September and October.

The Piccadilly line is one of the more affordable ways to get from central London to Heathrow airport, with tickets from £5.80.

More expensive, but faster, train routes include taking the Elizabeth line from £13.90 and the Heathrow Express from Paddington for around £26.
