Following Apple’s “Far Out” event, where it had an impressive showing with the iPhone 14 Pro and a bunch of other gadgets, Samsung is countering with a strong right hook, offering the first-ever (and best) discounts on its fourth-generation foldable phones. Available for $999.99 at launch, the 128GB configuration of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is currently discounted to $899.99 at Amazon.
It may still be a little gimmicky, but the fourth iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip is actually a pretty decent phone with solid battery life that easily compresses into a roughly 3 x 2-inch block that can actually fit in your pocket (wild!). The photo capabilities are slightly lacking compared to the Z Fold 4, but the Flip 4 is an excellent choice for something that’s reminiscent of a flip phone. Read our review.
As for the Z Fold 4, it offers more screen space and opens like a book. The 7.6-inch inner display gives you more than enough room for running side-by-side applications or streaming games and movies. The ultra-flagship Galaxy Z Fold 4 is Samsung’s latest premium phone. It offers a more durable 7.6-inch inner display as well as an outer 6.2-inch screen that is about 3mm wider than the display found on the last-gen Fold 3.
If you need some accessories to go with your brand-new phone, you may want to check out some of the chargers offered by Spigen and Anker. The Spigen ArcField 15W Qi charger is normally priced at $69.99 but is currently discounted to $54.99 for Amazon Prime members, and you can knock off an additional $7 when you clip the coupon before checkout. It’s wild to me that Sonos’ subs are nearly as expensive as the speakers they are supposed to get paired with.
Sonos finally announced its new Sub Mini this morning, after months of Chris Welch scooping them on it.
It’s exactly what we expected — a smaller version of Sonos’ older Sub — but the $429 price tag is hefty, considering Sonos recommends pairing it with a $279 Ray or $449 Beam soundbar.

Dark Sky’s days are numbered.
If you’re still using the Dark Sky app on iOS for your weather forecasts, you’ll soon have to find something else. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has begun displaying a message in the app that it will no longer function after January 1st, 2023.
Fortunately, iOS 16 has a quite capable weather app built right in that draws from the same data sources as Dark Sky, since Apple acquired the company back in 2020.

Apple’s satellite deal with Globalstar will probably save the company.
Globalstar was an also-ran in satellite services, but Apple has basically taken over the company without taking it over. Here’s analyst Tim Farrar in FierceWireless:
Yet getting the deal with Apple is still “pretty impressive,” he said. “It’s still very good to have gotten anything out of this because Globalstar has been languishing for years with revenues of not much more than $100 million a year and this is potentially going to nearly triple their revenues, so that’s a massive improvement in their satellite business,” Farrar said.
