Ready to transform your space and mindset? We’re here to help!
The 10-Day Minimalist Challenge is a tool to guide you through a powerful decluttering journey.
Whether you’re new to minimalism or have been practicing it for a while, this challenge will help you see significant changes by removing excess possessions from your home—in just ten days.
In some ways, it is an easy start for those of you interested in owning less. In other ways, it will challenge you and immediately open your life to the benefits of owning less.
For the 10-Day Challenge to work best, keep in mind that the goal is not just to rearrange items in your home; but to actually remove items from your home – donate, recycle, or responsibly dispose of them.
Here’s how the challenge works. Every day, for the next 10, choose one area in your home to remove 10 items. At the end of the 10 days, you will have spent time evaluating the possessions in almost every lived-in area of your home, AND removed (at least) 100 things.
Here’s the list:
Day 1 – Living Room:
Start in the living room. Remove 10 items such as old magazines, redundant decorations, or unused electronics. Create a space that’s both inviting and free of clutter.
Day 2 – Kitchen:
Declutter 10 items from the kitchen. Look for duplicate utensils, unused gadgets, old spices, or mismatched containers. Simplify your cooking space for a more enjoyable culinary experience.
Day 3 – Bedroom:
Focus on the bedroom. Remove 10 items that are cluttering this restful space, like old bedding, unused decorative items, or unnecessary gadgets.
Day 4 – Wardrobe:
Go through your wardrobe. Choose 10 items of clothing to part with – those that aren’t worn, don’t fit, or don’t bring joy. This step is about refining your wardrobe to reflect your current lifestyle and preferences.
Day 5 – Bathroom:
Declutter 10 items from the bathroom. Expired products, unused samples, old towels, or excess toiletries are common culprits of clutter in this space.
Day 6 – Bookshelf:
Choose 10 books to donate, sell, or give away. Focus on those you haven’t read or are unlikely to re-read, making room for new stories or a cleaner aesthetic.
Day 7 – Linen/Storage Closet:
Remove 10 items from your linen or storage closet. This might include old linens, unused storage containers, or miscellaneous items that have accumulated over time.
Day 8 – Storage Areas (Attic/Basement/Garage):
Clear out 10 items from areas like the attic, basement, or garage. These are often the hiding spots for things no longer used or needed.
Day 9 – Office/Study Area:
Declutter your office or study area by removing 10 items. This could be outdated electronics, old papers, or unused stationery.
Day 10 – Coat Closet:
Finish with the coat closet. Remove 10 items such as old coats, scarves, hats, or other outerwear that are no longer in use.
Embarking on this 10-Day Minimalist Challenge can be a game-changer in how you perceive and interact with your possessions. It’s not just about the physical act of removing items; it’s about resetting your mindset towards a more intentional and meaningful lifestyle. And don’t limit yourself to just 10 items if you feel inspired to go further!
