New Developments for Tara IKRC, UK
Under the compassionate and wise guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, Tara Centre moved to Ashe Hall at in Derbyshire, UK in 1996 following fourteen years of gradual development in Buxton in the Peak District.
Looking to the future, Tara IKRC is currently undergoing a most wonderful development. Thanks solely to Venerable Geshe-la’s blessings a stand-alone meditation hall in the grounds is being planned. It is expected to be completed for the Winter retreat January 2025. It will have large windows to create a stunning light space, as well as external Dharma adornments, including Dharma Wheel and Deer, vajras and the eight auspicious symbols. Truly, the new Tara meditation Hall will be a wonderful inspiring space.
Since moving to Ashe Hall, Tara IKRC has been home to many fortunate Kadampas and a source of Kadampa teachings for local people and those from all over the world.
Set in 38 acres of peaceful and beautiful woodland and parkland, Tara Centre was designated as Tara International Kadampa Retreat Centre in late 2020 by Venerable Geshe-la, starting a new chapter for the Centre. Now the centre hosts people from all over the world for in-depth retreats as well as a regular KMC schedule for the local community.
Tara IKRC consists of the 27 bedroom stately home, Ashe Hall, as well as an 18 bedroom Retreat Barn, 3 detached houses, a beautiful courtyard that hosts our World Peace Cafe and Tara veranda, and as of 2023, a brand new Tharpa bookstore and gift shop at Ashe Hall.
Tara IKRC is very fortunate to have Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab as it’s Resident Teacher. He is a retired General Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition and the National Spiritual Director of Canada. Gen-la teaches at Tara IKRC every week including GP classes and the popular Teacher Training Programme. Gen-la also teaches weekend courses, as well as empowerments and guides retreats throughout the year
