Trailer Watch: Elisabeth Moss Investigates a Serial Killer in “Shining Girls”
"Shining Girls"After taking on “The Invisible Man,” Elisabeth Moss is squaring off against a serial killer in “Shining Girls.” An adaptation of Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel, the Apple TV+ series tells the story of Kirby Mazrachi (Moss), a newspaper archivist whose dreams of becoming a journalist are put on the backburner after she’s assaulted. “After what he did, things aren’t as they should be. It starts with little things, and then big things,” she says in a new trailer for the thriller.
Six years after her attack, Kirby learns that a recent murder is connected to the crime against her. “I was cut up like her,” she explains. “If you’re trying to be a reporter, then this is your story,” she’s told.
There are multiple women dead over multiple decades, and one man connects them. He’s described as “everybody,” “nobody,” and “all the time.”
A two-time Emmy winner, Moss took home trophies for her leading role in “The Handmaid’s Tale” and exec producing the dystopian drama, which will return for a fifth season on Hulu with a release date TBA. She’s also received Emmy nominations for her roles in “Mad Men” and “Top of the Lake.”
“Shirley,” “Us,” and “Her Smell” are among Moss’ big screen credits.
Created by Silka Luisa (“Strange Angel”), “Shining Girls” premieres on Apple TV+ April 29. Phillipa Soo (“Dopesick”) and Amy Brenneman (“The Leftovers”) co-star. Michelle MacLaren (“Breaking Bad”), Daina Reid (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Moss direct.
