Travel PR specialist Debbie Hindle to tackle 10km Cancer Research fundraiser

Travel communications boss Debbie Hindle is taking part in a 10km fundraising event in May, as she recovers from cancer treatment.

The chief executive of Four Communications has been undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer since August – and marked the end of that long course of treatment on January 13 by ringing a special bell at hospital.

She will have an operation in February to remove the cancerous lump – which she has named Kenny, “to make it less threatening”.

The fundraising event is the Cancer Research UK Race for Life, taking place in Regent’s Park, London, on May 13.

Debbie will be walking the course with three friends, including Lin Limbrey, a colleague from her time at travel PR firm BGB.

She said she was inspired to take part in the race by Lin, “who has been crushing her own Kenny for a long time”.

“She made me sign up. She has been supporting me and keeps me laughing,” said Debbie.

“I was not surprised to get it, as cancer runs in my family, but I didn’t know there were so many different types, and the treatment was a bit of a shock.

“It was overwhelming in the beginning. It felt so good to ring the bell – I burst into tears.”

She paid tribute to the NHS and the way she was fast-tracked for tests and treatment after the discovery of the lump.

On her fundraising page, she also hailed the work carried out by charities such as Cancer Research UK, saying: “When I was diagnosed, I was most reassured by the knowledge that there have been so many improvements in treatments.

“I know for Lin and I, and everyone else who faces a cancer diagnosis, the fact this great work is being done brings us immense reassurance and hope.”
