Viva Cruises owner plans 12 new river vessels with sale of expedition ship
Seaventure being acquired by unnamed buyer
The Swiss owner of Viva Cruises has disposed of its single ocean expedition vessel and plans to expand its river fleet by 12 ships over four years.
Scylla confirmed that the sale of 220-passenger Seaventure to an unnamed international buyer is due to be completed this year.
Seaventure has been part of the Scylla fleet since 2019 and is mainly used for cruises on the Arctic and Antarctic.
Scylla chief executive Arno Reitsma said: “The sale came as a surprise and went faster than expected.
“We have big growth plans for river cruises and are very proud to be launching a total of 12 newbuild ships by the end of 2028.
“Porto Mirante, Scylla’s brand-new ship for the Douro River, is the first of these newbuilds – and will be followed by Viva Enjoy in November.
“This development underlines our positive direction and our commitment to river cruising.”
Scylla, which marked its 50th anniversary last year runs a fleet of almost 40 vessels including a number chartered out to other operators.
