Watch the Oscars ad from Disney and Hyundai for Disney's 100th anniversary
Moana, Aladdin and other classic Disney characters share the spotlight with Hyundai vehicles in the spot, which kicks off the automaker’s sponsorship of Disney100.
Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin and Moana are coming to Sunday’s Oscars —in the form of an ad for Hyundai and The Walt Disney Company.
The automaker and entertainment giant will run a 60-second ad during Disney-owned ABC’s broadcast of the Academy Awards to kick off Hyundai's sponsorship of Disney’s 100th anniversary. The deal, announced last year, makes Hyundai the exclusive automotive sponsor for the anniversary and is set to include a global ad blitz, original content launches, experiential activations, merchandising and social extensions connected to the Disney name and its intellectual property.
The Oscars ad, which was released today, mixes scenes of classic Disney characters and Hyundai vehicles, set to “When You Wish Upon A Star,” the 1941 Oscar-winning song from “Pinocchio” that Disney has used in marketing for years. It is meant to create “a seamless flow between the two brands,” while celebrating human connections across film and real life,” according to a statement.
The campaign is a collaborative effort by the Hyundai and Disney teams with Canvas Worldwide managing the brand relationship and ad buys, according to a spokeswoman. It will continue running after the Oscars, with the two brands also planning additional 15- and 30-second “Magic Moment” ads featuring Hyundai’s 2023 Tucson. Ad buys include broadcast, social and digital channels for the remainder of the year.
Disney earlier this year used another big TV moment—the Super Bowl—to promote the anniversary, dubbed Disney100. The official anniversary date is Oct. 16—on that day in 1923 Walt Disney and his brother Roy founded Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in Hollywood.
