Your favourite Cadbury chocolate blocks ranked from healthiest to least

From Fruit & Nut to Crunchie to Caramello, here’s a ranking order of popular Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate blocks, according to dietitian Melissa Meier.

There are few things in life more enjoyable than devouring some delicious Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. Yes, even as a dietitian, I know this to be true. But is there such thing as a healthier choccie choice? And if so, what is it? Here’s my dietitian-approved verdict.

Chocolate reality check

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news – but chocolate is chocolate, and should never be considered a ‘health’ food. It’s choc-full of saturated fat which is bad for your heart, as well as added sugar which can be detrimental to your teeth. Plus, it contains a lot of calories in relatively small portions, so can easily contribute to weight gain if you eat a lot of it on the reg.

That being said, I wholeheartedly believe that food is more than just fuel – it brings people together, provides enjoyment and feeds your soul. So, if chocolate is on your favourite foods list, I have absolutely no qualms with it having a place in your diet.

But before you dive in, there is a caveat. Chocolate (and any other treat food, for that matter) should only be consumed occasionally and in sensible portions. Read: not every single day. Not by the block. And only as long as the rest of your diet is based on healthy, wholefoods.

With this in mind, I really don’t believe in scrutinising every chocolate block on the market to find the ‘healthier’ option, only to feel less than satisfied after you eat it, still craving your favourite. Instead, I’d encourage you to choose whichever chocolate takes your fancy and enjoy a small portion of it mindfully (i.e. don’t shovel it into your mouth at your desk without giving it a second thought).

If you absolutely pressed me to choose a better block, however, I’ve jotted down my ranking order of fifteen popular Cadbury choices below. To compare apples with apples (or chocolate blocks with chocolate blocks, in this instance), I’ve compared them based on a 100 gram quantity.

Note: that’s *a lot* of chocolate and not a sensible serving size – it’s simply the number on the back of pack that makes it easy to compare between varieties.
