Your Friends & Neighbors has reinforced what it truly means to “keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.” As series lead, Coop (Jon Hamm), grapples with the consequences of his schemes, he and his family could be facing a new threat. Or, perhaps, it’s right under his nose. But by the end of episode 9, the penultimate episode of season 2, one major character’s death shakes things up for several people.

When Does the Season 2 Finale of Your Friends & Neighbors Come Out?
The season 2 finale, episode 10, will be released on Friday, June 5, on Apple TV.
Who Kidnaps Coop in Season 2, Episode 8?
By episode 9, it’s still unclear who exactly kidnapped Coop. At the beginning of the episode, he’s chained to a chair with a bag over his head. As masked men show Coop footage of him visiting Liv Cross (Kitty Hawthorne), they threaten him to make sure the “money stays where it is.”

Luckily, Coop is freed and runs back home to make sure Hunter (Donovan Colan) and Tori (Isabel Gravitt) are untouched. Upon seeing them asleep, safe and sound, Coop vomits in the sink, then watches over his kids as he quietly faces his inner demons.
After confronting Ashe (James Marsden) — perhaps the most likely culprit — later on, Ashe claims he is not responsible for the kidnapping and insists that he doesn’t run his business that way. Ashe even wants to investigate the kidnappers.
Do Mel & Coop Get Back Together in Season 2?
No. Despite the lingering electricity between Coop and Mel (Amanda Peet), they do not reconcile by season 2, episode 9. They’re both still single. Mel explores her sexuality and freedom as she manages menopause and hooks up with Miguel.

Who Dies in Season 2, Episode 9?
At the end of the penultimate episode of season 2, a fight breaks out between Coop and Ashe while Nick (Mark Tallman) and Barney (Hoon Lee) try to diffuse the situation during their boys’ night.
As Coop rages in Ashe’s face, Ashe pulls out a handgun, silencing Coop and the others. Nick unsuccessfully wrestles Ashe to stop him from inflicting any damage, but the tussle results in Ashe falling backward into his fireplace. His robe catches on fire, and he chases Nick, Barney and Coop down the hallway, only to fall backward.
While Ashe lies on the ground, Barney checks his pulse and pronounces him dead as the fire alarm goes off.
