American Airlines has added a new self-administered Covid-19 test option for travelers returning to the United States on international flights.
The carrier is making Abbott BinaxNow Home Test available via a partnership with telehealth provider eMed. Travelers can buy the tests either through an online portal or at select pharmacies, take the tests with them when traveling and administer them within 72 hours prior to travel home. Tests are available individually or in sets of six for $150, and the cost includes a virtual session with an eMed professional to oversee the testing process.
Last month, United Airlines also announced a collaboration with Abbott and eMed to make the BinaxNow test available to travelers, including integration with United's Travel-Ready Center.
In addition, American Airlines on Tuesday announced it has expanded its partnership with clinic network CareNow to provide testing at 160 locations across the United States for travelers. American also announced that it has enabled online and mobile check-in for travelers using its VeriFly app, meaning travelers do not need to check in with an agent if they can validate that they meet all travel requirements.
