Aidy Bryant, Ariella Elovic, and Sudi Green Are Bringing “Cheeky” to Peacock
From the cover of "Cheeky": ariellaelovic.comPeacock is going to get real about women’s bodies — without shame or judgement. According to Deadline, an animated comedy based on illustrator Ariella Elovic’s book, “Cheeky: A Head-To-Toe Memoir,” is in the works at the streamer. Elovic will write the adaptation with Aidy Bryant and her “Shrill” and “Saturday Night Live” collaborator Sudi Green.
Published in late 2020, “Cheeky” is a graphic memoir that celebrates Elovic’s body in all its beauty and imperfections. The Peacock adaptation is described as “a refreshingly honest, sometimes obscene collection of first-person stories about all things bodily told by comedians, celebrities, bus drivers, kids, and your grandmother’s crankiest friend.” The source continues, “Each episode focuses on a theme (Boobs, Sex, Body Hair, Coming of Age) and is animated in the same colorful and painterly style as the book by Elovic.”
Bryant and Green will serve as executive producers, and Elovic and Alice Mathias will co-exec produce. Willa Slaughter is producing the Universal Television title.
Bryant has received four Emmy nominations: one for her leading role in “Shrill,” two for her supporting turns in “Saturday Night Live,” and another for co-writing the song “Home for the Holiday (Twin Bed)” for an “SNL” sketch. She also co-created and EP’d the former. Bryant’s other credits include “Human Resources,” “I Feel Pretty,” and “Girls.” She recently inked an overall deal with Universal Television.
Green has nabbed five Emmy nods and two WGA Awards for writing on “SNL.” She also wrote for and produced “Shrill,” and is a co-executive producer on the upcoming Showtime comedy “I Love That for You.” Starring and co-created by her “SNL” colleague Vanessa Bayer, the series premieres April 29.
Elovic is the founder of @thecheekyblog, which she describes as “an online platform through which [she seeks] to combat the shame so many of us feel in relation to our bodies.” Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Cosmo, and Teen Vogue.
