David Skena Named Subway’s New CMO for North America

On Monday, Subway named David Skena as its chief new marketing officer for North America. Skena was most recently with Krispy Kreme, where he was executive vice president and chief growth officer.

“It’s great to be able join this iconic brand at such an important time for the business,” Skena said in a LinkedIn post. “There’s a lot to learn, a lot to do, and a lot of fun to be had with a great team along the way.”

While at Krispy Kreme, Skena placed a premium on insights- and creative-driven earned media strategies that consistently generated widespread coverage. He has also worked at Ruby Tuesday, PepsiCo, Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), and Computer Sciences.

His arrival at Subway comes at a time when the sandwich chain is seeing a transformation within its leadership ranks.

Greg Lyons was appointed global CMO in May. Lyons joined Subway from PepsiCo, where he had been CMO of its North American beverage division since 2017.

In July, Jonathan Fitzpatrick was named CEO of the company following a comprehensive search that saw him come from Driven Brands, where he was ipresident and CEO.

Subway announced additional executive appointments Monday: Damien Harmon was named president of North America; Tracy Gehlan president of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; and Artemio Garza president of Latin America and Caribbean.
