How do you stay cool in the summer? This past weekend, Brooklyn hit 90 degrees. Omg, I forgot how hot it is when it’s hot! This summer, for evening walks and park hangs with the boys, I’d love to channel Marianne (above) and pull on lightweight linen, which always feels comfy and breezy. Here are six pretty pieces…
1. Dinner in the garden of Frankies Spuntino. How cute are these mix-and-match options: tank, pants, and skirt? They come in red and polka dot, as well.
2. A stroll through the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. This 100% linen set (top + skirt) looks so pretty and comfortable. I’m also into this cutout shirt and pants.
3. Riding the Cyclone at Coney Island. I’ve never not sweated through an afternoon with the boys at Coney Island, so my strategy this year will be a light dress and huge thermos of ice water.
4. Swimming at a hotel in the south of France. This hotel is pure fantasy, but as long as we’re daydreaming, I’d read a murder mystery under an umbrella, sip an ice-cold Fanta, and wear a sardines shirt with pull-on shorts.
5. An afternoon at a museum. My brother and I went to the National Portrait Gallery together this spring, and the portraits of everyone from Henry VIII to Malala Yousafzai to Harry Styles were amazing. I was wearing a rain-soaked wool sweater (like the Brit I am), but next time I’ll feel better in a floaty shirt and white pants.
6. At the playground with kids. My most-worn summer outfit is a white tee with pull-on shorts, and this red gingham is cuuuute. Also into green stripes.
Thoughts? What would you wear? My friend in Copenhagen says everyone’s wearing white skirts; and isn’t this plaid dress beautiful?
P.S. Summer nail polish, and the random thing I get the most compliments on.
