KMC Canada was involved in two events for public benefit this past weekend! During Doors Open Toronto 2023, an event organized by the City of Toronto, 450 people visited our temple. They enjoyed a 10 min guided meditation and the Liberating Prayer. They were also introduced to the different Buddhas and the sound of their mantras, to the history of the building, the significance of the Buddhist symbols, and shown the two cabinets of Buddha’s teachings and their commentaries, the Kangyur and the Tengyur.
People were deeply moved as they experienced the beautiful, peaceful environment of the main meditation hall. Our KMC Canada volunteers worked well with the volunteers from the City of Toronto and a feeling of loving kindness and joy pervaded the event.
"Thank you for being such gracious hosts," said one visitor. "I will definitely be back," another told us.
Our guests were given a complete tour of the building, including areas of the temple not normally open to the public, such as the ritual prep room and the Tharpa Publications Canada shipping room. They finished their visit with complimentary refreshments while watching meaningful videos on modern Kadampa Buddhism and the wonderful development of the NKT worldwide.
At the same time, KMC Canada participated in Word on the Street 2023, the City of Toronto weekend Book and Magazine Festival. We had a wonderful time, meeting many people and introducing them to Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s books on meditation and modern Buddhism.
