East Bay Meditation Center to Host Post-Election Dialogue with Angela Davis and Lama Rod Owens on November 8

On November 8, 2024, the East Bay Meditation Center (EBMC) in Oakland, California will host “Love, Power, and Liberation: Angela Davis & Lama Rod Owens in Conversation,” a virtual and in-person event following the United States presidential election. The discussion between renowned activist and scholar Angela Davis and leading mindfulness teacher Lama Rod Owens will be moderated by writer and activist Prentis Hemphill. The conversation will focus on the current political situation, future challenges, and cultivating community to make space for “reflection, strategy, and collective liberation.”

In a press release about the event, Renato Almanzor, EBMC’s board chair, stated the importance of dialogue on these topics in the days following the election. “This conversation couldn’t be more timely,” he says. “As we face unprecedented challenges, we need spaces like this to recharge our spirits, inspire action, and remind ourselves of the power of collective liberation.”

“Love, Power, and Liberation” will also serve as a fundraiser for EBMC, which has provided the Oakland community with nearly 20 years of mindfulness and meditation training rooted in social justice and healing. The event will take place on November 8, at 7 p.m. PST at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center. There will be a livestream offered to those who wish to join virtually. Tickets for both in-person and virtual attendance are available on Eventbrite
