Easy life band says easyJet owner suing over name

A Leicestershire indie band called easy life said it is being forced to change its name by easyJet’s parent easyGroup.

Easy life said in a statement that the band is being sued – and it could not afford a costly legal battle.

In a statement, easyGroup said the singer Murray Matravers and his fellow band members “have decided to use our brand, easyLife without permission”.

“I am confident we will stop Mr Matravers,” added the statement.

The band’s statement to fans highlighted: “We’ve worked hard to establish our brand. I’m certain in no way have we ever affected their business.

“Although we find this whole situation hilarious, we are virtually powerless against such a massive corporation.”

It ended: “For those of you that bought gig tickets and ended up on a budget flight to Tenerife, I apologise.”

An easyGroup spokesperson told the BBC: “Stelios [Haji-Ioannou] and easyGroup founded and now own the right to the easy brand name.

“Other companies, including Easylife [the catalogue company], pay annual royalties for its use as part of their business strategy.

“We cannot allow others to simply use it free, gratis and for nothing.”
