European flight cancellations soar by 46% in June

The number of flight cancellations within Europe increased by 46% in June, compared to the previous month, according to new figures from aviation analytics firm Cirium.

Last month, 8,145 flights were cancelled within Europe, up from 5,584 in May.

Meanwhile, flight cancellations in the Asia Pacific region decreased by 16% month on month.

The on-time performance report from Cirium said that Icelandair was Europe’s most punctual carrier last month, with 84% of flights arriving on time.

Iberia Express was second position, with almost 83% of all flights on time, followed by Iberia taking the third spot, with almost 78% of flights on time.

SAS and Finnair also made the top five, with punctuality rates service of 77% and 76% respectively.

No UK airline featured in the top 10 of most punctual European carriers.

Globally, Saudia was named the most punctual airline in June, with 88% of flights arriving at their destination on time.

Aeromexico took second place (86%), just ahead of Latam Airlines which took third place with almost 86%. JAL and Azul took fourth and fifth spots, with 85.1% and 84.8% respectively.

Cirium defines an on-time flight as one that arrives at its destination airport within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival time.
