FedEx and Orbis Flying Eye Hospital
During the course of the event, participants will be entertained by “yours truly” as Microsoft pilot Chris Levesque takes you through sets of live-streamed flight simulation experiences on the state of the art Microsoft Flight Simulator. The flight simulations are actual GPS Satellite imagery.
Participants who take part in the Orbis Flight for Sight event will also take a virtual tour of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. This is an amazing airplane that flies around the world helping those in need. FedEx donated a cargo jet that was transformed into a state-of-the-art teaching and training eye hospital.
Nearly 1 billion people around the world live with vision loss or blindness that could be prevented or treated if they had access to the care that we take so easily for granted. Your participation will help to end avoidable blindness for those living in love and middle-income countries where eye care doesn’t exist.

Flying Eye Hospital
The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital was made possible by the event sponsor FedEx who donated this one-of-a-kind plane and transformed it into a state-of-the-art teaching and training eye hospital.
The flying eye hospital travels to half a dozen destinations each year equipped with a full medical team from more than 30 countries. Doctors, nurses anesthesiologists, and biomedical engineers volunteer their time to share their expertise with local medical professionals.
The flying eye hospital’s goal is three-fold. To help treat eye problems that could be easily cured if only people had access to medical professionals, raise awareness of eye health with local governments, and to train local medical professionals.
1 Billion People Live with Avoidable Eye Disease
Sadly, 90% of the 1 billion people living with avoidable eye disease reside in low and middle-income countries. There is where the flying eye hospital become so important. Not only does the volunteer staff treat eye disease, but it also creates opportunities, simulation training, and sharing of expertise with local medical professionals.
The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital also generates awareness about eye health in low and middle-income countries and opens dialogue with local governments and ministries of health to help change global eye health policies and priorities.
