For the most part, it’s entirely possible live without an iron and still manage to avoid walking around looking like a mess. But every so often, a shirt, pair of pants, or dress comes along that refuses to let go of its wrinkles.
Most of the tips for smoothing out a piece of clothing without an iron involve popping the garment in the dryer. That might work, but what if you don’t have an iron or a dryer? Here’s what to know.
How to remove wrinkles without an iron or dryer
Your success with the following methods will have a lot to do with how deep the creases are in the fabric, the type of material the garment is made out of, and how much of it is wrinkled. Here are a few different options to try:
Hang the item of clothing in the bathroom while you shower
The idea here is that the steam from the shower will gently coax the wrinkles out of the garment. Some people swear by this technique, but it works best when the piece of clothing is only slightly wrinkled.
Use a stand-in for an iron
A pot or kettle with a handle can serve as a makeshift iron in a pinch. Make sure that the outside is completely clean, then boil some water in it, dump it out, and use the bottom to smooth out any wrinkles in the garment.

Use a hair dryer
Place the item of clothing on a hanger, spritz a little bit of water on the wrinkled area, and then use a hair dryer to blast the creases out while smoothing the fabric with your hand. Keep the hair dryer far enough away from the garment to ensure you don’t accidentally burn it.
