Adidas has settled its dispute with Kanye West over his 2022 antisemitic remarks, ending their Yeezy partnership.
Adidas, the famous activewear brand, has reached an out-of-court settlement with rapper and former collaborator Kanye West, also known as Ye. This agreement concludes a lengthy legal dispute that began soon after their partnership ended abruptly in 2022.
Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden has confirmed that all legal proceedings between the company and Kanye West, formerly known as Ye, have been resolved. This includes multiple lawsuits filed by both parties following the termination of their high-profile partnership in 2022.
In a recent conference call, Gulden stated, “There aren’t any more open issues, and no money going either way. We both move on.” This indicates that the two parties have reached a mutual agreement to drop all legal claims and move forward without any financial exchange.
While CEO Bjorn Gulden declined to provide specific details about the settlement, he did offer some insight into the resolution. He explained significant disagreements and tensions between the two parties on various issues. However, both Adidas and Kanye West, formerly known as Ye, ultimately decided that further legal battles were not worthwhile. As a result, both parties agreed to drop all legal claims against each other, effectively ending the dispute.
Adidas terminated its partnership with Kanye West’s Yeezy brand in late 2022 following a series of highly publicised antisemitic and racist remarks made by the rapper. These controversial comments led to significant global backlash and scrutiny, not only for West but also for those who continued to work with him.
The decision to end the partnership came amid growing tensions between West and Adidas. In the months leading up to the termination, West had taken to social media to publicly criticise Adidas executives and their management of the Yeezy brand.
The termination of the partnership ignited a wave of legal battles. Adidas shareholders filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging negligence in handling West’s problematic behaviour. Subsequently, Adidas initiated legal proceedings against West, accusing him of misappropriating approximately $75 million in marketing funds and breaching contractual obligations.
