Meta Enables Users To Add WhatsApp Profiles to Accounts Center

Meta has announced that it will now enable users to integrate their WhatsApp profile within its Accounts Center, making it easier for users to cross-post, log-in, and access their information from its apps.

As you can see in these example screens, you’ll soon be prompted to add your WhatsApp account to your Account Center listing, which already links your Facebook, IG and Messenger profiles.

Meta says that it’ll be rolling out the option over the next few months, though it’s also keen to underline that this is both optional and will not impact the privacy of your WhatsApp presence.

As per Meta:

Our approach for WhatsApp is simple: your account is separate from other apps and no one but you can change that. While adding your WhatsApp to Accounts Center is completely optional and off by default, it can help those who want features to work more seamlessly across apps.”

Like, say, re-sharing your WhatsApp Status update to Facebook or Instagram Stories.

You won’t be able to cross-post from IG or FB Stories back to WhatsApp as yet, but eventually, that will also be possible, making it easier to post your updates once, and have them appear in multiple places.

After linking, you’ll also be able to log back in to your WhatsApp account with a single sign-on, streamlining the process.

Though some WhatsApp users will be hesitant, especially since WhatsApp has long prided itself on its privacy and security focus.

The update is actually part of Meta’s broader push to integrate all of its apps, and turn them into one big, interconnected platform. The original push for this came in response to the suggestion that the company could be forced to divest Instagram and/or WhatsApp over anti-trust concerns.

The FTC has been pursuing this for some time, and is still pushing for a divestiture to dilute Meta’s market dominance. But under Trump, that now seems less likely, which could see Meta taking further steps to solidify this integration, and ensure that there’s no way it could be forced to break up the company in future.

Because once everything is welded together, there’ll be no way to separate out specific elements. As such, further integration of WhatsApp may also be about unification, in addition to convenience.

Either way, it’s another option to consider, and while not all WhatsApp users will take it up, it could be helpful for your broader cross-connection process.
