Microsoft announced yesterday (May 13) that it is laying off 3% of its global workforce, impacting about 6,000 employees.
This marks the tech giant’s largest round of layoffs since it let go of 10,000 employees in 2023.
The job cuts will affect employees across all levels, geographies, and teams, including LinkedIn, as part of Microsoft’s efforts to “reduce management layers” and “best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace,” according to a spokesperson.
Earlier in January, the company carried out a small round of performance-based layoffs; however, the spokesperson clarified that the new job cuts were not related to performance.
Microsoft had 228,000 employees worldwide at the end of June 2024. At its headquarters in Redmond, Washington, about 2,000 workers will be impacted, with terminations expected to commence on July 13.
It’s unclear how many employees in Singapore will be affected. Vulcan Post has reached out to Microsoft for comment.
