Polar Routes to run one-off small group Antarctic expedition cruise

Expedition cruise specialist Polar Routes has added a one-off small group Antarctic voyage to its collection.

The 23-day voyage, called the Ultimate Antarctic Expedition, will depart on January 21, 2025, and explore the remote Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, giving passengers the opportunity to spot wildlife such as whales, penguins and seals.

The sailing will take place on small ship Polar Pioneer which holds five Zodiacs and up to 53 passengers and can sail to parts of Antarctica bigger ships are unable to reach.

Broadcaster, environmental historian and author Huw Lewis-Jones will lead the group.

Prices start at £14,999 including a 21-night cruise on a full board basis, one-night hotel stay prior to departure, internal flights from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, excursions and lectures. A £500 discount will be applied to the first 10 people to book.

“Every trip to Antarctica is an unbelievable privilege,” Lewis-Jones said.

“The Ultimate Antarctic Expedition Cruise on the small, hardy expedition ship Polar Pioneer means we will have unrivalled access to one of the most intriguing wilderness areas in the world and will encounter wildlife, ice shelves, glaciers, ice movements and remote islands few will ever have the privilege to see.

“Whether it is to get up close with penguins, marvel at sublime landscapes or learn more fascinating polar history, this is a journey like no other.

“The joy with this particular trip is the small ship size and being out in ice and wilderness is what makes my heart sing. Unforgettable experiences await you.”
