SITA Invests in Identity Tech Provider Indicio

Aviation technology specialist SITA is investing in decentralized identity technology provider Indicio, with an aim "to digitally transform identity checks and border control," according to the companies.

SITA and Indicio already have worked together to enable travel documents including boarding passes, visas and frequent-flyer accounts to be attached to a traveler's digital identity, the company said. With that, travelers could share required passenger data before they fly, enabling them to essentially "cross the border" before their journey, according to SITA and Indicio.

"The emergence of digital identities means we can fundamentally rethink today’s complex passenger journey to make it easier, faster and connected with the wider travel ecosystem," SITA SVP of borders Jeremy Springall said in a statement. "It will simplify the identification process at every step and open up opportunities for the air transport industry to fully embrace the benefits of seamless travel and the digital economy."

SITA did not disclose the amount of its investment in Indicio in its announcement but said it is the lead investor in its Series A funding round.
