‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Cast Departures: Which Actors Are Not Returning?

Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be quite different from the past. Coaching a women’s league now, the titular coach (Jason Sudeikis) teams up with Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) once again. But, unfortunately, not every original cast member could fit in with the new direction of Ted Lasso.

Below, Hollywood Life explains who’s not in the fourth season of Ted Lasso — and how Sudeikis broke the news to them.

Which Ted Lasso Cast Members Are Not in Season 4?

Quite a few people from past seasons will, unfortunately, not be in the fourth season of Ted Lasso. Among the recognizable faces are Phil Dunster, Nich Mohammed, James Lance, Cristo Fernández and Anthony Head, who died in June 2026. 

Dunster played the controversial Jamie Tartt from seasons 1 through 3. In the first season, Jamie was a womanizer until eventually realizing his true feelings for Keeley. Dunster had scheduling conflicts because he was working on HBO’s Rooster.

Lance portrayed fan-favorite journalist Trent Crimm (who could forget his line, “Trent Crimm — The Independent?). Eventually, viewers saw Trent become a truly independent reporter, one whose motive isn’t digging for sports gossip.

Mohammed’s character, Nate, underwent perhaps the biggest transformation of all on the show. After turning against AFC Richmond in season 3, Nate worked with competitor West Ham United, the team that Rebecca’s cheating ex-husband, Rupert, managed. Fortunately, Nate realized Rupert’s toxicity, reconciled with Ted and returned to Richmond.

Fernández played the lovable Dani Rojas, and, sadly, he won’t be in season 4 of Ted Lasso, likely because the new season centers on a female football team. 

During a July 2026 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sudeikis recalled making “very difficult” phone calls to his comrades, informing them that they would not be in the fourth season.

Pointing out that he called each actor directly, Sudeikis said, “Because I didn’t want them to hear it on the internet, and because I love those guys and we all went through something together.”

Is Jason Sudeikis Still in Season 4 of Ted Lasso?

Yes! Despite fan theories that the titular character would either leave the show altogether or scale back, season 4 most definitely includes Sudeikis in his lovable lead role.

Could There Be a Season 5 of Ted Lasso?

A fifth season of Ted Lasso has not been confirmed by Apple TV at the time of publication, but no one expected a fourth season either! So, season 5 could still be in the cards, depending on audience reception and viewership.
