Thomas Cook launches its online brand in Netherlands

Online travel agency Thomas Cook has launched a business in the Netherlands, as the brand starts to expand into Europe.

The Dutch business will operate on the same digital platform as the UK and will work with new and existing partners to offer consumers in the Netherlands holiday packages in a wide range of European destinations.

Customers will be able to fly from all major airports and choose from airlines such as Transavia, Corendon and easyJet.

Thomas Cook’s new Dutch company is a member of ANVR, the Dutch travel association, as well as SGR and Calamiteitenfonds, which together provide full consumer protection. Thomas Cook Netherlands will initially have a small local team with support from the current UK team.

As the business develops, it aims to add more team members.

Alessandro Dassi, chief executive of Thomas Cook Europe and vice-president of parent company the Fosun Tourism Group, said: “The success of our China and UK business, despite all of the challenges of the past two years, has given us confidence that now is the time to take our first step into Europe.

“As restrictions ease in the Netherlands, we can see huge demand for people to get away on long overdue holidays.

“Our scalable online platform coupled with the trusted travel expertise of our team, puts us in a strong position to capitalise on the expected market rebound.”

Thomas Cook returned as an online-only travel business in September 2020 following the acquisition of the brand by international conglomerate Fosun Tourism Group.
