Thrust Carbon has achieved assurance for the ISO 14083 standard, the benchmark on carbon reporting methodologies released last year, the company announced.
Thrust said it is the first company worldwide to have its methodologies assured to the standard, which will give its customers confidence as Europe's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive takes effect next year, requiring businesses to have carbon accounts that are accurate an independently verified. That will reduce such risks as fines or "greenwashing" accusations," according to Thrust.
"For years, customers have been worried about which methodology is correct for their business since there has been no global standard for emissions reporting," Thrust Carbon founder Kit Aspen said in a statement. "This landmark ISO assurance puts that to rest, since it is the first third-party global standard for travel methodologies, enabling companies to use leading carbon calculations with confidence."
Independent assessor Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance conducted the assurance, which was a "multi-month process which included detailed methodology analysis," according to Thrust.
