TIFF Adds Docs From Laura Poitras & Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Expands Contemporary World Cinema Slate
"The Grab": TIFFThe program for the 47th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival continues to grow. The fest has added new titles to its TIFF Docs and Contemporary World Cinema sections. The former includes offerings from Oscar-winning “Citizenfour” helmer Laura Poitras and “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite.
Poitras’ “All the Beauty and Bloodshed” tackles the opioid epidemic, while Cowperthwaite investigates land grabs by some of the world’s most powerful countries in “The Grab.” As previously announced, Madison Thomas’ “Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On,” a portrait the Indigenous singer-songwriter and activist, will also screen in this section.
Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun,” the story of a woman reflecting on a formative summer vacation with her father, and Lina Rodriguez’s “So Much Tenderness,” a drama about an environmental lawyer who rebuilds her life in Toronto after fleeing Colombia, are among the titles in the Contemporary World Cinema slate.
