CBS Leads News Networks at 46th News and Documentary Emmy Awards
NBC weatherman Al Roker received the Lifetime Achievement honor.

Despite CBS News’ uncertainty as it awaits a new owner amid the ongoing Skydance Media merger with Paramount and fights a legal challenge from President Donald Trump, the network emerged as a big winner during the 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards ceremony recently.
The network took home five awards, with its Sunday newsmagazine, 60 Minutes, winning three awards during the two-day celebration. Wednesday night was dedicated to news, and Thursday night was reserved for documentaries.
Bill Owens, 60 Minutes’ former executive producer, was a Silver Circle honoree, receiving the recognition alongside ABC News’ Akram Abi-Hanna and Deborah Roberts and Spectrum News’ Cater Lee.
Gold Circle honorees included ABC News’ Marc Burstein and CBS News’ Martha Teichner.
Owens resigned from 60 Minutes in April, explaining his departure as not being able to “run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes, right for the audience.”
His exit comes as owner Shari Redstone looks to settle the lawsuit brought by President Trump. The network filed a new response on Monday seeking to have the suit dismissed.
Circling back to the Emmys, ABC News and CNN each received four awards, with ABC World News Tonight With David Muir winning the award for outstanding live news program for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, CNN’s The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper took the outstanding recorded news program for the second year in a row.
NBC News, BBC News, Al Jazeera International, Telemundo, and Univision each received two awards, while NewsNation, The Weather Channel, Bloomberg, PBS News, Scripps News, and Prime Video each received one award.
Prime Video’s award is notable as it was for its 2024 Election Night special hosted by Brian Williams. The streamer won the Outstanding Show Open or Title Sequence: News award.
Finally, NBC News weather personality and Today co-host Al Roker received the Lifetime Achievement honor.
On the Documentary side, PBS received two awards, while Bloomberg and MSNBC/NBC News Studios each received one.
Documentary filmmaker Jon H. Else received the Lifetime Achievement honor.
A total of 66 awards were distributed by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences throughout the two nights. The celebrations took place at the Palladium Times Square in New York City.
