"Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon"

Kate Hudson befriends a fugitive who has escaped from the Home of Mentally Insane Adolescents in “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon.” A trailer just dropped for Ana Lily Amirpour’s latest. Described as “violent” and “dangerous,” Mona Lisa (Jeon Jong-seo) also has superpowers. When the desperate teen crosses paths with Bonnie (Hudson), she is emphatic that she’s “not going back” to the institution she fled.

“Since when do you help people?” Bonnie’s son (Evan Whitten) asks his mom. It turns out that Bonnie isn’t helping Mona Lisa out of the kindness of her heart. She sees the situation as an opportunity to make some fast cash. “She’s a little miracle,” Bonnie says.

Hudson received an Oscar nod for “Almost Famous.” The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” actress most recently appeared in Apple TV+ crime drama “Truth Be Told.”

“Burning” and “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” are among Jeon’s credits.

Amirpour made her feature debut with 2014’s “A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night” and followed it up with 2016’s “The Bad Batch.” Her TV credits include “Legion” and “Castle Rock.”

“Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon” made its world premiere at Venice Film Festival last year. It hits theaters and on demand September 30.
