Safety guidance shared after two of association’s members targeted
The Travel Network Group has issued “urgent” advice for its members on how to protect their businesses from the increasing threat of fraudulent airline websites.
The association shared an advisory note on Wednesday (May 5) which included guidance on how to identify and avoid scams that could compromise business and customer trust.
TTNG said there had been a “significant increase in the number of fraudulent websites posing as legitimate airline booking portals” in recent months, with two of the group’s members targeted.
These scams lead to financial loss and erode consumer confidence in the travel industry, said a TTNG spokesperson.
The association has outlined several key strategies its members can implement immediately to provide greater protection for their businesses.
The advisory includes details about:
Verifying website URLsUsing secure connectionsUsing trusted sourcesAvoiding clicking on email linksUpdating passwordsUsing multi-factor authenticationUpdating their security softwareGary Lewis, chief executive of The Travel Network Group, said: “Protecting our members and their customers is our top priority.
“The rise in fraudulent airline websites poses a significant threat, and it is imperative that we take immediate action.
“We are working with Profit on understanding if this issue is industry-wide and until we get their update, we wanted to provide our members with the tools they need to stay vigilant and safeguard their business operations.”
Lewis added the association would “continue to monitor the situation closely” and encouraged members to reach out for additional support should they need it, as well as report any suspicious websites they encounter.
