Zulu Alpha Kilo names managing director of its newly opened New York office

Independent Canadian agency Zulu Alpha Kilo has hired Goodby Silverstein executive Meghan Mullen as managing director of its newly opened New York office.

Mullen will lead the agency’s New York office, which opened in July after the appointment of Tim Gordon as partner and chief creative officer. Mullen will work alongside Gordon as they build out the New York operation with the support of ZAK founder and Chief Creative Officer Zak Mroueh.

“From the moment I met Meghan, it felt like a natural fit, having both grown up in the industry at passionately creative agencies, we have so much in common,” Gordon said in a statement. “Our views on what the industry can be, how transformative creative should be, and how we should nurture culture, felt effortlessly in sync.”

Mullen joins ZAK from Goodby Silverstein & Partners, where she was part of the New York leadership team as director of new business. Prior to the Omnicom Group agency, she spent nearly 11 years at independent Wieden+Kennedy New York, where she led teams developing work for brands like Delta Air Lines, Duracell and Target. At W+K she served as an interim director of new business and supported the head of account management.

ZAK has been broadening its international reach this year, with the opening of the agency’s Vancouver office in February and the appointment of Gordon over the summer to oversee the development of the New York office. The New York office is currently housed in a temporary space as Gordon and Mullen look for a more permanent location in the city.

The agency’s expansion continues a recent trend of creative Canadian shops breaking ground in the U.S. In 2020, No Fixed Address opened Mischief in New York with BBDO vet Greg Hahn, and last December, Rethink expanded to New York, buoyed by increased interest from U.S. clients following its work for brands such as Heinz Ketchup and Kraft Mac & Cheese.
