Travel Counsellors’ Jane Sheffield recalls ‘career first’

Agent books bride and groom holiday on their wedding day

A travel agent has booked a bride and groom a holiday on their wedding day in a “career first”.

Travel Counsellors agent Jane Sheffield had told her friend Debbie about a deal on a January 2025 New York trip, which she had booked the holiday the night before attending a wedding.

The next day, Sheffield received a message from Debbie saying she had told the bride and groom about the offer and they were keen to secure the trip before walking down the aisle.

After messaging back and forth to ensure she had the right spellings of both their names, Sheffield booked the holiday for the couple and two hours later the wedding went off without a hitch.

Sheffield told Travel Weekly it was a “totally mad” experience, and she was “thrilled” to help the couple just before they got married.

“I couldn’t believe what was happening – it was a first for me in my 35-year career as a travel agent,” Sheffield said.

“The last thing I said to Debbie after booking her trip was ‘You’re going to a wedding tomorrow, spread the word’, but I wasn’t expecting her to tell the bride and groom.

“I was able to have a phone call with the newly-weds the day after their wedding where I could iron out all the details with them and it was lovely to get a chance to properly chat.”

She added: “There’s always something wild going on in travel!”
