The six-month program will present four writers with $40,000 each for the production of a proof of concept and development of a pitch for a television series “that authentically reflects the Black experience,” a press release announced.
Each fellow will also be mentored by an established showrunner.
Writers who have not previously been compensated for their screenwriting for film or TV will be able to opt into consideration for the fellowship, on The Black List website, through December 15. The Black List will select a shortlist of up to 15 writers, and share their work with YouTube Originals. The latter will choose the fellows in February 2023.
Feature, episodic, and theater writers are welcome to submit for the Black Voices Creator Fellowship, but the proof of concept and pitch must be for a TV series. Half of the $40,000 grant must go toward the proof of concept’s production funds.
