“We all have a past. We all have secrets,” says Allison Janney in a new trailer for “Lou.” Anna Foerster’s action pic sees the Oscar winner playing Lou, a woman who is trying to put her past behind her. When a desperate mother (Jurnee Smollett) begs her to help find her kidnapped daughter, Lou joins her on a dangerous rescue mission that exposes both of their secrets.

“If you slow me down, I will leave you behind,” Lou warns. Eventually she becomes convinced that “this isn’t just a kidnapping” and that they are “running out of time.” Smollett’s character asks, “What aren’t you telling me?”

Janning won an Oscar for “I, Tonya.” She starred in “Mom” for eight seasons, landing two Emmys for her role along the way. The CBS sitcom concluded its run last year. Her upcoming slate includes “The People We Hate at the Wedding,” a comedy from “Set It Up” director Claire Scanlon.

Best known for her roles in “Lovecraft Country” and “Birds of Prey,” her upcoming slate includes “The Burial,” a drama from “Novitiate” filmmaker Maggie Betts about a lawyer who helps a funeral home owner save his family business.

Foerster’s credits include “Underworld: Blood Wars” and episodes of “Westworld” and “Outlander.” She’s helming a sequel to 2011 sci-fi “Source Code.”

Penned by Maggie Cohn (“The Staircase”) and Jack Stanley, “Lou” launches on Netflix September 23.
