Expressing your Truth with the Throat Chakra (Blue Chakra)

Have you ever held back from expressing your truth to others? Or felt like you have difficulties communicating? Perhaps it is time to look at your throat chakra (or blue chakra).

This is the place where expression is often suppressed, but it no longer has to be this way. Read on to find out how you can open your throat chakra and share your energy with the world!

What are the chakras?

A chakra is a spinning wheel of energy, often called an energy center. There are thousands of these chakras in your body, but the seven chakras that are most commonly known, run from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. In order, the chakras and chakra colors are:

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. The root chakra color is red, creating strength and stability in the physical body.

The sacral chakra is located beneath the belly button in the lower belly. The sacral chakra color is orange, sparking creative energy and inspiring sensuality.

The solar plexus chakra color is yellow, and it is located above the naval. This is the fire center, the powerhouse of the body concerned with motivation, willpower, and control.

The heart chakra color is green, and this energy center is located right in the middle of the chest. It holds the energy of unconditional love, joy, and gratitude.

The fifth chakra, the one we will focus on here, is the blue chakra. It is located in the center of the throat and is related to communication and expression.

Above the throat chakra are two other chakras. The third eye chakra color is indigo, and the crown chakra color is purple or white. These two upper chakras are connected with the spiritual realms, intuition, and visions of the future.

The Throat Chakra Color

The color blue symbolizes being cool, calm, and connected. Blue can come in many hues, just like the varying depths of the oceans. These varying hues of blue can also be compared to our varying expressions of us as humans. Our individuality is what makes us special and valued in this world, and this is what the throat chakra is here to help you express.

The chakra colors are connected with the certain energy of each chakra. For blue, it is about learning to be calm and confident when having a tough conversation. It is also about finding a deep sense of safety in allowing self-expression.

What is the Energy of the Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is also known as Vishuddha Chakra, a Sanskrit word that means ‘especially pure’. This purity comes from the connection of allowing the truth of our inner world (the physical body) out into the world through clear communication.

The throat chakra also invites in higher spiritual energy from the third eye and crown chakras and creates a passageway for Spirit to communicate effectively through us too.

When the throat chakra is in balance, it gives us the ability to communicate our emotions and thoughts clearly. It provides us with clarity of who we want to be in this world and it brings a general sense of healthy self-esteem and spiritual well-being.

Symptoms of a Throat Chakra Imbalance:

Throat chakras can be blocked, underactive, or overactive. Let’s take a look at the differences:

An Underactive or Blocked Throat Chakra

When the fifth chakra is blocked, you will notice it in your communication with others. This looks like not being able to talk or express yourself in front of other people, having trouble speaking up when you need or want to, or even being able to ask for something clearly.

In terms of physical symptoms, the blocked subtle energies of the throat chakra can manifest as a sore throat, recurrent tonsilitis, swollen glands, and constant bacterial infections. You might also notice tight shoulders, and tension stored in the neck.

An Overactive Throat Chakra

Too much energy in the blue chakra will look like someone who is constantly talking but never able to listen. Both expressing and listening are traits of the throat chakra, but one who is too caught up in what they have to say and is unable to hear others has too much energy leaking from this chakra. This could be due to other energy centers lacking and it is important to look at how to balance all of the chakras in this case.

How to Balance and Heal the Throat Chakra

One of the best ways to express your voice is through singing or chanting mantras!

But if you want to try something different, here are a few suggestions:

Blue Crystals for Soothing the Throat

Try these blue gemstones to bring your blue chakra back into balance:

Sodalite – this wonderful blue and white stone heals, balances, calms, and brings confidence so that you can speak up with ease.Lapis Lazuli – a blue stone laced with golden specks brings harmony and ease when expressing yourself.Aquamarine – like the ocean, this stone is cool and calming, great for stressful situations.Turquoise – the beautiful shade of blue color in this stone is calming and helps you to connect with your inner light of truth.Blue Lace Agate – a soft and gentle stone for connecting with your higher angelic support team.

You can choose to take a stone in your hand during meditation, or perhaps when you are going into a difficult conversation or presentation. You may also choose to wear the stones as necklaces as wearing them close to the throat chakra will be beneficial in this particular chakra.

Yoga Poses for the Blue Chakra

Start your yoga flow with neck stretches from side to side or around in circles to warm up this energy center. Then, you can progress into some deeper throat chakra opening poses.

Matsyasana (Fish Pose)

This is a deep stretch of the neck as you rest the crown chakra on the floor behind you, leaving space to open up the front of the throat. The legs are usually extended straight, but many variations can be made, depending on your yoga abilities.

Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward Facing Dog)

This common pose is another great one for opening through the front of the chest and throat. Hold this pose for a few deep breaths, and imagine a beautiful blue light radiating from the center of your throat outwards.

Breathing Exercises for the Throat Chakra

The classic cleansing breath for moving stagnation from the throat energy center is Lion’s Breath. To try this, on your exhale, stick out your tongue, let it hang out loose and really let the breath go with a sigh or a hissing type sound. This pose does look funny when done in public, but you have to do what you can to set yourself up for clear expression!

Reiki Energy Healing

Seeking a Reiki Master may also help you to overcome throat chakra blockages. Reiki is an energy-healing modality with the ability to channel healing energy into the body. It is commonly used as a spiritual healing technique to help connect you with the healing forces of the universe. It can help in healing both physical and emotional imbalances and will leave you feeling aligned with life itself.

Reiki feels like a deep meditation for the mind, body, and soul.

Wearing Blue for the Blue Chakra

Blue symbolizes the cool, calm freedom that you can express when you are in your truth. To activate the blue chakra, try wearing blue clothing, whether it’s a light blue sweater or deep blue jeans, a funky blue pair of shoes, or a blue scarf around your neck. Let the color blue inspire your creativity as you explore a new wardrobe.

Not only will you look good, but you will feel more confident to speak your own truth!
