Florida showcases culinary offering with first Michelin guide
Star awards given to 15 restaurants in Miami and Orlando
Florida is aiming to showcase its culinary offering and diverse tourism product following the publication of the first Michelin guide for the state.
The new guide covers 118 restaurants in Miami, Orlando and Tampa and was created through a partnership with Visit Florida. Other US Michelin guides cover New York, Washington DC, Chicago and California.
A total of 44 restaurants are recognised in the guide, with 15 awarded stars and 29 receiving Bib Gourmand awards which showcase “good quality, good value restaurants”.
Of the starred restaurants, 14 received one star, with L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami the only restaurant to secure a two-star ranking.
Of the 14 one-star restaurants, 10 are in Greater Miami and Miami Beach and four are in Orlando.
Celebrating the city’s performance, David Whitaker, chief executive of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Visit Florida and our colleagues in Orlando and Tampa to introduce Florida’s first-ever Michelin Guide.
“This prestigious honour serves to solidify Miami and Miami Beach as one of the most sought-after business and leisure travel destinations in the world.”
