We’ve seen a boom in edutech platforms amidst the pandemic, and their benefits have trickled down into our new tech-driven normal.
TigerCampus is a virtual tutoring platform that can attest to this.
“The fact that the edutech scene has become saturated after the pandemic shows that people do see value in online learning,” said Joshua Wong, founder of TigerCampus. “We believe that learning is always personalised, and there will always be a demand for quality education.”
Founded in 2019, the on-demand tutoring platform aims to give students more flexibility and control over their schedules, learning styles, and help teachers join the gig economy to earn more income.
Catering to students’ personalised learning
Learning isn’t a cookie-cutter situation, and that’s why TigerCampus’ users can get personalised lesson plans for any subject, at any schooling level (from primary school up to PhD).
Students going through major exams under the Malaysian syllabi (UPSR, PT3, SPM, and STPM), and international ones (IELTS, A-Levels, SATs, IGCSE, and IB) can also benefit from TigerCampus.
This is because the platform has tutors that specialise in exam preparations.
Based on your learning goals and needs, you then get paired with a tutor. Before committing to a tutor, you get a free trial to see if your learning style matches an educator’s teaching methods.
Like on other e-learning sites, bookings, rescheduling, and cancellations are easily done online.
All of TigerCampus’ tutoring sessions are one-on-one, and you have the choice of doing them virtually or in person.
In-person tutoring sessions (for local teachers) cost RM80-RM135 per hour, and online classes are conducted over Zoom calls for RM70-RM100 per hour. Online classes are recorded and kept on the platform for a month, so you can go through the lessons again for revisions.
You’ll also have the option to book a session with international tutors, be they from Hong Kong, the US, or Singapore, for RM210-RM280 per hour.
Learning from top university graduates
Joshua believes it’s important to open up international tutors to TigerCampus, as their differing insights can help educators and students expand their knowledge and views on global education systems.
Arguably, the e-learning landscape in Malaysia is saturated, but TigerCampus prides itself on its pool of tutors who graduated from top universities.
Some examples include Imperial College London, Brown University, University of Melbourne, National University of Singapore, and Monash University.
To curate a selection of qualified tutors, TigerCampus vets them through a stringent process which looks at their technical knowledge of the subjects and syllabi. Even their teaching abilities, such as how well they engage with students, are assessed.

After consulting the tutors to get a better understanding of their processes, the team will then advise them on the best solutions moving forward.
If you’re still unsatisfied with a tutor’s methods, you can choose to switch tutors as well. Additionally, if you feel you have been unfairly charged for a class, TigerCampus may reimburse a cancellation fee.
More avenues for students to take control of their learning
Other than personalised tutoring sessions, as a TigerCampus user, you’ll also get access to TigerCampus Eddy (Eddy), and TigerCampus Snap (Snap) for free.
Eddy is a resource platform with worksheets, notes, quizzes, free study guides, practice questions, and more, for you to independently and mindfully prepare for exams. Since they can all be accessed online, there’s no need to go out and purchase workbooks in stores.

Worksheets and guides that have been solved are then uploaded onto Eddy so others students can learn from your work.
That said, how is TigerCampus’ team ensuring that students won’t be using Snap to get professionals to do their homework for them? It’s a controversy surrounding AI chatbots that many in the world of academia have raised red flags about in the past year.
“We offer guidance and understanding behind the solution,” Joshua explained. “While it is true that students can easily find someone or even use AI to solve their homework, it is not a substitute for learning.”
As explanations from tutors will also come in the form of “corrections”, this suggests that students turning to Snap for help should already have working hypotheses for their answers.

It leverages Joshua’s expertise, as he’s previously co-founded a coding school for international students in Tokyo, Japan.
Kids can choose to join programmes like Minecraft coding and Roblox game creation, while adults can upskill in the fields of cybersecurity or AI.

Thus far, reviews on the platform appear positive according to third-party sites, with parents praising the tutors’ abilities and teaching methods.
While TigerCampus aims to tackle a large variety of subjects and syllabi across all schooling levels, the focus of subjects on the site suggests that secondary school and pre-university students would get the most out of it.
